Kia Debuts Affordable EV3 SUV to Revitalize Its Electric Vehicle Lineup

The compact electric SUV arrives as Kia reports record hybrid and electrified sales — though its existing BEV lineup is sliding. The price point matters, and so does the math behind it.

The EV3 at $29,890: trim by trim

Five trims are available — Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT — with both front- and all-wheel-drive options. The base Light FWD uses a 58.3 kWh battery with an EPA-estimated 221 miles of range. Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT step up to an 81.4 kWh pack rated up to 321 miles on a charge.

Every EV3 ships with a native NACS port, so Tesla Supercharger access is built in. On a 350 kW DC fast charger, the smaller pack goes from 10% to 80% in about 29 minutes; the larger pack takes roughly 31 minutes. For a daily commute and the weekend grocery run, the EV3 lands at the same sticker as the Bolt and LEAF and stretches further on a charge.

Momentum is real — but mostly hybrid

Kia America sold 83,793 vehicles in August, a new monthly record up 1% year over year. Six nameplates set August records: Seltos (+53%), Carnival (+13%), K4 (+7%), Telluride (+4%), Sportage (+4%), and K5 (+4%). August hybrid sales jumped 99% YoY; electrified vehicles rose 36%. Year-to-date through August, Kia has moved 590,377 vehicles in the US, up 3%, with hybrids up 111% YTD and electrified vehicles up 60%.

The fully electric picture is messier. Kia moved 712 EV6s and 1,789 EV9s in August, down 60% and 33% YoY respectively. EV9 is still up 12% YTD at 10,474 units; EV6 has fallen 39% YTD to 5,429. The EV3 registered just six units in its launch month.

UK data from the Department for Transport, analyzed by the AA, shows the broader private-buyer picture is shifting too. Private EV ownership jumped 271,382 vehicles in the most recent quarter — a 46% YoY increase and the largest quarterly rise on record. By the end of March, 860,334 privately registered EVs were on UK roads; the total fleet passed 1.86 million by quarter-end and more than 2.15 million fully electric cars were on UK roads by July. Growth is spreading geographically: Wales posted 55% annual growth, with Blaenau Gwent up 84.8% and London up just 22%.
